Reportworq 6.0.0.4#
The latest official Reportworq 6 release. It rolls up everything from the hotfix builds on top of 6.0.0.3, plus new work. Everything below shipped in this release.
Highlights by area - the short version. Expand All changes below for the full list with issue references.
- Connectors & data sources - Add Vena as a report source, bring QuickBooks reports, NetSuite saved searches and Workday WQL reports in as tables, share Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace credentials across integrations, report on Reportworq's own jobs, run history and audit logs through the Content Store data source, and keep each OAuth connection's sign-in separate.
- Data models & workspace files - Build data models in a visual view designer, and use an Excel workbook or SQLite database uploaded to a workspace as a data source or a model's source with one click. Workspace files now show which reports use them and warn before you delete or overwrite one.
- Reporting - The HTML viewer's side rail shows the same 3-level bookmark tree as the PDF, OfficeConnect reports built on Workday Financials refresh through your Workday Adaptive Planning connection, and empty Pigment previews and empty list reports now behave.
- IBM Planning Analytics - TM1 worksheet functions report invalid arguments correctly, the TM1 REST API TI samples are more robust and downloadable, and Planning Analytics folders show your own connection names.
- Distribution & email - Google Drive sets up with a one-screen OAuth sign-in or a friendlier service-account flow, mail-server TLS errors name the certificate, and you can opt out of validating a mail server's certificate.
- Security & administration - Name your API keys so runs show who called them, administrators choose which workspaces can use each integration, session tokens are signed with a per-installation key, and licensing works across shared-repository and multi-process setups.
- Deployment & upgrade - A Reportworq 6 import from v5 leaves the scheduler paused until you are ready, the Windows service no longer fails to start when another file shares part of the install path, and installer and patch downloads have new filenames (see Upgrade notes).
All changes, with issue references
New#
- RW-2225 Connectors OfficeConnect reports built on Workday Financials ("Reporting: Financials") now refresh through your Workday Adaptive Planning connection, using the same Workday OAuth settings.
- RW-2087 Reporting A data model can now read an Excel workbook or SQLite database straight from a workspace folder, with no data source connection to set up first. Choose the file as the model's source, or use Create data model on the file in the workspace browser.
- RW-2086 Connectors An Excel workbook or SQLite database uploaded to a workspace can now be used as a data source, either by browsing to it from the Excel connection's URI field or with one click, using the new Configure as data source action in the workspace browser.
- RW-2076 Reporting Data models get a visual view designer. Start from a table, follow its relationships to related tables, and tick the fields you want; Reportworq builds the joins for you. A new Source screen lets you browse any table's data and relationships, and define your own relationships where the source declares none.
- RW-2063 Connectors You can now pick Vena as a report source: browse your Vena processes' Files Libraries and use a Vena template directly as a report, with no manual download and re-upload.
- RW-2007 Reporting When a report is also exported to PDF, the viewer's HTML side rail now shows the same 3-level bookmark tree as the PDF, so you can move through the report by section instead of by a flat list of sheets.
- RW-2006 Connectors Bring QuickBooks reports, NetSuite saved searches and Workday WQL reports into Reportworq as tables, straight from a data model's Connection tab or the datasource's settings page, and regenerate or remove them there. Every CData datasource also gains a Tools section, starting with Refresh driver metadata.
- RW-1862 Documentation New Hands-on Lab guide: a step-by-step course that starts at installing Reportworq on Windows and walks you through building the Timberline reports.
- RW-1742 Connectors Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace credentials can now be shared across integrations or set up individually for each one.
- RW-1740 Security & Admin Each integration's configuration now lets an administrator choose which workspaces can use it.
- RW-1608 Connectors The Reportworq Content Store data source also exposes Reportworq's run and audit logs as relational tables you can report on.
- RW-1563 Connectors System administrators can now add a one-click Reportworq Content Store data source and report on jobs, schedules, run history and audit records across every workspace as read-only SQL, with nothing to configure and secrets never included.
Improvements#
- RW-2078 Documentation A new Upgrade from version 5 guide explains which v5 versions must be updated first and how to bring a v5 repository into v6.
- RW-2026 Security & Admin Workspace file storage (on/off and allowed file types) is now set per workspace under Security > Workspaces, next to who can access that workspace.
- RW-2023 Connectors CData OAuth connections (QuickBooks Online, HubSpot, NetSuite and others) now keep their sign-in tokens encrypted in Reportworq's own configuration store, rather than in a token file the driver writes next to the repository's files.
- RW-2015 Documentation The data-source guides now show how to bring QuickBooks reports, NetSuite saved searches and Workday WQL reports in as tables, and how to use each connection's Tools, with screenshots.
- RW-1926 Documentation The TM1 REST API TI sample processes can now be downloaded from the Downloads page.
- RW-1916 Distribution When a mail server's TLS certificate is rejected, the error and the application log now name the certificate (subject, issuer, validity dates and thumbprint) so you can see what to fix.
- RW-1906 Distribution The Email settings now list the two Microsoft 365 providers together, and saving a Microsoft 365 provider without a credential tells you what is missing.
- RW-1905 Distribution Google Drive integrations now ask one question, which configured credential to use, and the sign-in method follows from the credential you pick instead of a separate Service Account / OAuth toggle.
- RW-1860 Distribution When the scheduler is paused, the side rail now shows Scheduled Content with a pause icon and a "(Paused)" label so you can confirm at a glance that nothing will run.
- RW-1854 Security & Admin API keys can now be given a name, and any job started through one shows that name as the caller on the Activity history and in the job audit log, so you can see at a glance that a run came from, say, Workato.
- RW-1846 Deployment Deleting or overwriting a workspace file that a report depends on now warns you first and names the reports that use it.
- RW-1845 Deployment Workspace files now show which reports use them, so you can tell at a glance whether a file is wired into a job before you change it.
- RW-1834 Security & Admin Secret Rotation now has its own tab under Settings > Security, instead of sitting inside the Reportworq API configuration tab.
- RW-1818 AI Settings > AI Prompts now shows a Close button in its header, consistent with every other Settings screen.
- RW-1798 Deployment Settings > Configuration > Web Server now shows the repository's full path, so it is always clear where Reportworq is storing its data.
- RW-1797 Documentation A dedicated Connect Excel guide explains how to use an Excel workbook as a data source, including a workbook that ships inside the repository.
- RW-1794 Documentation The SQL connector documentation now explains when to use the native SQL Server, OLE DB, or ODBC connector, what each requires, and shows example connection strings for each.
- RW-1748 Documentation Reportworq now ships a complete reference for the native IBM Planning Analytics / TM1 worksheet functions it supports, including what is permitted in each argument and what causes a warning versus an error.
- RW-1744 Security & Admin The Security Audit Report now shows which integrations each workspace can use and the credentials they reference.
- RW-1722 Distribution Setting up Google Drive with a service account is now easier: Reportworq shows the account's email to share Drive access with, defaults the application name, and accepts the key as a masked file upload instead of pasted plain text.
- RW-1721 Distribution The Google Drive connector can now be set up with a one-screen OAuth sign-in that you register yourself, instead of pasting a service-account private key, and a delivery location is chosen in a folder browser or a single Location field.
- RW-938 Planning Analytics Planning Analytics folders under Source Reports now show the connection name you gave each connection, instead of the raw TM1 server name.
- RW-806 Deployment You can now cancel a software-version download or a patch-file upload while it is in progress on Settings > Update Reportworq.
Fixes#
- RW-2110 AI MCP tools such as get_report_outputs now return each report's own name when it was produced in a run alongside other reports, instead of a name listing every report in the run.
- RW-2108 Connectors Previewing a Pigment view or block that returns no rows now shows an empty table instead of the error "The source contains no DataRows".
- RW-2079 Deployment Fixed Reportworq failing to start (error 193) when a file on the server shared part of the install path, such as
E:\Programfor an install underE:\Program Files; the service now starts the web app by its full, quoted path, which also closes a way to run another program as SYSTEM. - RW-2077 Reporting Previewing a data model on a connection you just added now works without restarting Reportworq.
- RW-2054 Connectors Vena connections now verify Vena's HTTPS certificate.
- RW-2051 Connectors Testing a Vena connection now shows Vena's actual error, such as the Public Export API not being enabled or invalid API credentials, instead of a confusing parsing error.
- RW-2043 Security & Admin Global search no longer shows authors user-account and group results that open a screen only system administrators can use.
- RW-2039 AI Properties > AI Context now shows each relevance score once instead of twice.
- RW-2036 Distribution Fixed Run History sometimes showing a delivered run with no delivery card, or with empty Timeline/Performance diagnostics, until it was reopened.
- RW-2014 Deployment Fixed a rare failure where Reportworq pages could fail to load for some users after several people had connected to the server at the same time.
- RW-1987 Security & Admin Sign-in session tokens are now signed with a key unique to each installation; after upgrading, everyone signs in again once.
- RW-1968 AI Fixed AI context settings growing with duplicate entries each time they were saved.
- RW-1950 Connectors Excel cube-function queries to Azure Analysis Services now wait at least 300 seconds, and CData OAuth sign-in commands honor the connection's command timeout.
- RW-1944 Planning Analytics The Rest API Run Job Sample 2.4 TI process now finds
RunApiJob.ps1in its default folder,C:\Reportworq\Scripts\, without editing (an existing copy of the process keeps the old defaults until you delete it and install the sample again). - RW-1939 Reporting Fixed the Select a Report dialog showing 01/01/0001 instead of a real Modified date for folders. Folders with no recorded date now show a dash rather than a placeholder date.
- RW-1938 Connectors Fixed a bug where two OAuth data connections of the same type (for example two QuickBooks Online companies) could return data from the wrong company; each connection now keeps its own sign-in state.
- RW-1935 Planning Analytics The TM1 REST API TI samples now handle quotes and blank values in their parameters.
- RW-1931 Planning Analytics Fixed the TM1 REST API TI samples installing with empty processes on Linux.
- RW-1923 Planning Analytics The "Rest API Run Job Sample - Cloud - 1.1" TI process runs again on v5 and v6 (its generated PowerShell script was truncated at a single quote), and the REST API now accepts a job request whose values were entered with surrounding quotes and explains any other malformed request by JSON path and position.
- RW-1900 Distribution Data Collection inbox monitoring can now be configured to accept a mail server's TLS certificate that does not validate, matching Reportworq 5 behavior.
- RW-1896 Deployment Fixed a rare case where purging deleted workspace files could remove the contents of a file that was being uploaded at the same moment.
- RW-1891 Connectors A SQLite data connection whose file is missing now fails its connection test instead of silently creating an empty database.
- RW-1871 Security & Admin If the instance has no usable license, uploading a backup or support packet now prompts for a license key instead of failing silently, so diagnostics can still be sent to support during a licensing problem. Downloading the packet to attach manually keeps working regardless.
- RW-1870 Deployment Importing a Reportworq v5 repository into v6 now leaves the master scheduler paused and the Cloud API connection off until you turn them on, so a side-by-side migration cannot run production jobs before you are ready.
- RW-1869 Distribution The SMTP Server email provider now has a Do not validate the mail server's TLS certificate option for servers whose certificate name does not match the host, and a failed connection test names the host and port.
- RW-1863 Security & Admin Activating a Reportworq license now stays valid across every server sharing one repository and across the background job runner, so load-balanced and multi-process setups no longer report "no valid license" after activation.
- RW-1861 Connectors Deleting an integration and adding it back no longer fails with a "soft-deleted ... cannot be overwritten" error.
- RW-1859 Distribution On Settings > Configuration > Email, your Test Email Address is saved again (and carries forward from a v5 upgrade), and you can send a test email to an address you just typed without saving first, though unsaved mail-server changes still need saving before a test.
- RW-1858 Security & Admin The License screen displays accurately on an unlicensed environment, where no entitlements are actually granted.
- RW-1850 Deployment The Timberline demo now ships with corrected Board Pack Market and Sales Rep Scorecard workbooks, and lists only the Email and Network Folder integrations you can use without extra setup.
- RW-1847 Deployment The workspace file list now shows each file's size in the Labels column instead of a dash.
- RW-1822 Security & Admin Settings > Configuration now opens instantly, even when the repository holds large temporary files, and a large Excel add-in refresh no longer leaves an oversized diagnostic log behind.
- RW-1816 Planning Analytics VIEW, TM1USER and TM1SET now report #VALUE! for an invalid argument instead of leaving the cell blank.
- RW-1812 Planning Analytics TM1ELLIST now accepts an element list without an alias argument, and a three-argument call no longer returns #VALUE!.
- RW-1795 Security & Admin The Security detail screens now scroll with the scrollbar at the right edge of the page instead of in the middle of the screen.
- RW-1757 Reporting Parameter tokens in the job editor now render as styled pills after a hard browser reload of a deep editor URL, instead of appearing as plain text.
- RW-1755 Deployment The Timberline demo system now records and displays its full repository path in Settings > Configuration > Web Server.
- RW-1753 Deployment The Timberline demo system now ships with its Google Drive, OneDrive and SharePoint integrations unconfigured, so you connect your own accounts when you try them.
- RW-1733 Security & Admin Long setting labels on several screens now display in full instead of being cut off with an ellipsis.
- RW-1705 Security & Admin Users with Reader access no longer see Run now in the Report Viewer.
- RW-1129 Reporting A list report whose query returns no rows now refreshes in Excel.
Upgrade notes#
- RW-1756 Deployment On Linux tarball installs, the repository location and web port you set in Reportworq now stay set across restarts and upgrades. The
RW_*variables in the service's environment file are now opt-in overrides rather than the source of those values, so an operator who relied on that file should read the updated install guide. - RW-1729 Deployment The Windows installer and patch download are now named
Reportworq_Installer.exeandReportworq_Patch_<version>.zip. Update any script that downloads them by filename.
