Save and Save As#
The Job Editor chrome (the band across the top of the editor, alongside the report title, Job Options, and Discard) carries the Save Changes control. Selecting the caret beside it opens Save As, which saves a copy of the report under a new name instead of overwriting the one you have open.
Before you begin#
- Have a report open in the Job Editor with unsaved or previously saved content. Save As works whether or not you currently have unsaved changes.
- Know the folder the report lives in - the new copy is created alongside the original, in the same folder.
Save Changes (unchanged)#
Selecting Save Changes writes your edits back to the report you have open. The report keeps its name and identity; only its content is updated.
Save As: create a copy#
- In the Job Editor chrome, select the caret beside Save Changes.
- Select Save As….
- Enter a name for the copy. The editor suggests
Copy of <current name>; replace it with anything that is not already used by another report in the same folder. - Confirm. Reportworq creates a new report with that name from the report's current content - including any changes you have made in this editing session, saved or not - and the Job Editor switches to editing the new copy.
The original report is left exactly as it was last saved. Save As never overwrites it and never renames it. After Save As completes, Save Changes in this editor tab now saves to the new copy, not the original - if you want to keep editing the original report, open it again from the workspace.
When to use it#
- Create a variation of an existing report (a different region, department, or format) without touching the one already in production.
- Checkpoint before an experiment. Save As before making a risky change, so the last-known-good version stays available under its own name if you want to go back to it.
- Start a new report from an existing one that already has most of the source, parameters, or distribution setup you need, rather than building from scratch.
Notes and limits#
- The new name must be unique within the destination folder; Reportworq rejects a name already used by another item there.
- Save As always places the copy in the same folder as the original. Move or rename it afterward from the workspace if it belongs somewhere else.
- Run history, schedules, and audit log entries belong to the original report and are not copied - the new report starts with a clean history.
