The Office add-ins#
Reportworq loads a task pane inside the Office applications your authors already live in. There are two, and they do different jobs.
| Add-in | What you do with it |
|---|---|
| Excel | Pull governed data into a worksheet layout you control, refresh it on demand, find and insert Reportworq worksheet functions, and build refreshable charts and maps. |
| PowerPoint | Link slide shapes to report objects so a deck fills with live data on every run. The linking procedure lives with the rest of the PowerPoint story, in PowerPoint reporting. |
What the add-ins are for, and what they are not#
The add-ins are for content: getting the right data into the right shape on a sheet or a slide.
They are not where a job is assembled. Bursting, distribution, scheduling, and everything about who receives what stays in the web Job Editor. The usual division of labor is that an author builds and refreshes the content in Office, then goes to the web to decide how it is produced and where it goes.
Shared prerequisites#
Both add-ins need the same three things:
- HTTPS on the Reportworq server. This is a hard requirement for every Microsoft 365 feature, not a recommendation. Over plain HTTP the add-in sign-in fails, and it fails quietly. See System requirements.
- The add-in installed in Office. Install from Home > Add-ins, search for Reportworq, then Add > Continue > Allow and Continue. On Excel 2016, or anywhere users cannot install add-ins themselves, an administrator deploys it centrally. See Deploy the Office add-in.
- A signed-in licensed account. You sign in every time you use the add-in. The prompt accepts a non-default server URL and port (the Windows default is 8600).
Where to go next#
- Excel: build and refresh reports
- Excel: find and insert functions
- Excel: charts and maps
- PowerPoint reporting, which covers linking slide shapes to report objects in the PowerPoint task pane
- Functions overview, for what the worksheet functions do once they are in the sheet
